Through our education outreach programs, Clexical is dedicated to democratizing music education by providing engaging and accessible learning opportunities to students in underserved communities. We have developed a comprehensive curriculum that introduces contemporary music and AI-composed music in a fun and interactive manner, tailored to the needs and interests of each community we serve. Our programs not only aim to foster a deeper appreciation for music but also to inspire creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression among students. By partnering with schools and organizations in high deprivation areas, such as El Sistema and East Harlem School, we are able to reach students who may not have had access to music education otherwise, empowering them to explore their musical potential and contribute to the vibrant tapestry of contemporary music. Through hands-on activities, workshops, and performances, we strive to create a positive and inclusive learning environment where students can discover the joy of music and unlock their artistic talents.

What I've learned so far

After conducting a series of interviews with contemporary composers amidst a rapidly changing cultural landscape, several key findings have emerged.

Firstly, the younger generation of composers, deeply entrenched in the digital age, exhibit a notable affinity for high technology in their creative processes. This technological immersion not only influences their composition techniques but also underscores the pervasive influence of contemporary trends, particularly in music. Moreover, these composers emphasize the importance of staying attuned to the ever-evolving musical landscape, constantly adapting their styles to reflect current trends and preferences.

Secondly, a significant challenge faced by these composers lies in garnering acceptance for their music among diverse audiences. While their compositions may resonate strongly with some listeners, they often encounter resistance from those accustomed to more traditional or conventional forms of music. Consequently, these composers are tasked with the daunting challenge of bridging the gap between innovation and acceptance, seeking ways to make their music more accessible without compromising its artistic integrity.

One notable strategy identified through the interviews involves incorporating elements of tonality into their compositions, thereby providing audiences with familiar points of reference while still pushing the boundaries of contemporary music. This delicate balance between experimentation and accessibility emerges as a central theme in the creative endeavors of these composers, reflecting their ongoing quest to navigate the complexities of a rapidly evolving musical landscape.
